Meet new Miki Kariya world in Christie's Hong Kong this weekend!

Christie's Asia is delighted to present Miki in Wonderland, a solo exhibition of the Japanese artist Miki Kariya. This exhibition marks the artist’s debut solo presentation in Hong Kong, showcasing over 10 works of art created in 2021-2023.

Depicting nature in a manga-like illustration, mushroom and rabbit are the recurring motifs in her paintings. While the earliest depiction of a mushroom is found in the Haywain Triptych by Hieronymus Bosch, it is the rabbit occupies a greater presence in the history of art. In late antiquity, rabbit was regarded as the symbol of good luck. Taking clues from her predecessors, Kariya asserts her cultural roots as a Japanese by merging these motifs into a contemporary and childlike context. —Christie's Asia
